This training week is generally handled on a one-to-one basis or two-to-one basis.
The secondary instructional period
is intense and fast paced. Returning students can opt to bring their own dog for evaluation and training or they may continue
to train with our team as they become more fluent in their handling skills. Some new handlers may also opt to lease or
purchase a scent specific K9 from our agency. This opportunity is awarded on a case by case basis.
Students will go over their trial cases from the first training week for assessment and evaluation. The
new handler will become adept at profiling and recognizing each scenario while acquiring the confidence to make
crucial decisions in their recovery process.
The student will will work a minimum of three cases in this week. One of the cases the student will
lead while Karin works as navigator and back up.
Upon completion and passing of this training period,
the student will be accredited as a Directional Response K9 Handler. Individuals completing this phase of
training will automatically move into the Mentor Internship Program and be listed on the web site as such.
